Barban

The municipality is located near the eastern coast of Istria, southwest of the Raša River, and northwest of Raša Bay. The area is characterized by gently rolling Istrian terrain with a series of low hills, sinkholes, and steeper slopes descending towards the Raša Bay and the valley of the Raša River.

The town Barban, with just 235 inhabitants, exudes charm and a rich heritage dating back to the 13th century. Barban boasts a rich cultural heritage, including four churches (the parish church of St. Nicholas, the church of St. James the Apostle, the church of St. Anthony the Abbot, and the church of Our Lady of Oranice), remnants of city walls, a city tower, Glagolitic inscriptions and graffiti, an ancient Roman inscription, a city lodge, the Loredan Palace, 15th-century frescoes, and a Gothic custodian. The Barban earring, or "Barbanski rančin", is an authentic souvenir, a replica of the original earrings found in Barbanska Gradina, which belonged to the ancient Croatian population in the 11th century and are preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Istria. However, Barban is not just a relic of the past but a vibrant destination for culture lovers. Its famous knightly game "Race for the Ring," wine festivals, and gastronomic delights make it unforgettable.

Thanks to its excellent location and diverse offerings, tourism has flourished here, offering renovated holiday homes, luxurious villas with pools, and plenty of activities. In the heart of Istria, Barban remains an essential destination for travelers seeking exploration and unforgettable experiences against the backdrop of a rich history and vibrant culture.
