Lanišće

The Municipality of Lanišće stretches across an area of 143 km², encompassing the area from Žbevnica to Oštri Vrh, and consists of 14 settlements. With its rare beauty and rich history, it invites visitors seeking an authentic experience of untouched nature. Besides being known for its quiet and peaceful atmosphere, Lanišće also captivates with its rich cultural heritage, with the beautiful church of St. Kancijan, Kancijana, and Kancijanila from 1927 as a central point. Once relying on coal production and livestock farming, its economy is now focused on agriculture, with tourism playing a smaller role. Tourism in the Municipality of Lanišće focuses on active leisure and sustainability, offering a variety of activities such as hiking, rock climbing, and cycling.

The expanses of Ćićarija, a sparsely populated landscape, charm with their silence, freshness, and peaceful atmosphere, providing a true refuge far from the crowds of coastal beaches. As a sparsely populated area, Ćićarija increasingly attracts tourists in search of a genuine nature retreat, with a range of diverse activities and beautiful views of the Buzet Valley and surrounding settlements.

Every year, on the last Sunday in May, the event "Zarozgajmo na Ćićariji" is held, featuring a showcase and exhibition of musical instruments, costumes, and other specific ethnographic items from northern Istria, as well as traditional food and drink. Additionally, the event features "bugarenje," a preserved and specific style of singing, characteristic only of the Ćićarija region.

Lanišće, with the richness of its nature and tradition, offers visitors an unforgettable experience of exploring and getting to know Istrian rural life.
