Novigrad

Situated on a limestone peninsula, Novigrad encloses a bay at the mouth of the Mirna River. Once known as a small fishing village, it has been rapidly developing tourism since the 1960s. Inhabited since ancient times, Novigrad is mentioned in written records as Neapolis, Civitas Nova, Emona, Emonia, or Aemonia, with a rich history dating from the 4th to the 7th century.

The town center abounds with historical landmarks such as medieval walls, towers, and the Church of St. Pelagius, preserving numerous archaeological and liturgical artifacts. Notable examples of Baroque architecture include the Rigo Country Villa and the Rigo Patrician Palace, built in the 1760s by Count Carlo Rigo. There is also the Country Palace in Dajla, a significant architectural ensemble located along the coast of Dajla with a French neoclassical appearance. The unique Belvedere Loggia, the only loggia in Istria located by the sea, is likely leaning against an older structure of defensive walls (towers). Next to the loggia, on the western side, is the semicircular passage of Porta a Marina, leading towards the sea. The Church of St. Anne represents Romanesque architecture, while the Parish Church of St. Pelagius and St. Maximus dates back to the early Christian period.

The Novigrad Lungomare offers kilometers of seaside promenade, enchanting you with its beauty and tempting you to explore and enjoy it. The coast of the Novigrad Riviera stretches from Dajla to the mouth of the Mirna River, characterized by rugged, low, and accessible beaches of stone and gravel. At the mouth of the longest Istrian river, the Mirna River, near the Novigrad Antenal, there is a magical home to numerous birds, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and plants, including endemic orchids.

Novigrad attracts many guests with its natural beauty, preserved sea, tradition, cultural and historical heritage, summer events, and diverse and quality wine and gastronomy offer.
