Situated on a limestone peninsula, Novigrad encloses a bay at the mouth of the Mirna River. Once known as a small fishing village, it has been rapidly developing tourism since the 1960s. Inhabited since ancient times, Novigrad is mentioned in written records as Neapolis, Civitas Nova, Emona, Emonia, or Aemonia, with a rich history dating from the 4th to the 7th century.

The Church of St. Anne represents Romanesque architecture, while the Parish Church of St. Pelagius and St. Maximus dates back to the early Christian period.
