Kaštelir

Kaštelir, the seat of the Kaštelir-Labinci municipality in Istria County, is located at an altitude of 236 meters and covers an area of 0.78 km². Its rich history dates back to prehistoric and Roman times, first mentioned in 983 AD as Castellione, owned by the Bishop of Poreč.

Today, Kaštelir is known for its vineyards, olive groves, and stunning surrounding nature. The majority of the population is engaged in small and medium-sized enterprises and agriculture. Renowned producers of wine, potatoes, olive oil, honey, and vegetables, many of them are recipients of various awards.

In Kaštelir, you can experience popular events like the Gramperijada, celebrating potatoes as an exceptional local produce. Besides competitions for the weirdest and largest potatoes, visitors can enjoy various potato dishes, music, and a lively atmosphere. Additionally, the celebration of Kuzminje takes place here, featuring live traditional food preparations and culminating in the observance of the feast day of the town's patron saints, St. Cosmas and Damian, through a traditional church procession.

To the north, above the Mirna River valley, lies Vrbanovica, a recreational area and memorial site attracting many cyclists and hikers due to its well-maintained cycling trails of Poreština. Further west is the uninhabited locality of Sabadin, popular among sports flyers - paragliders, due to its altitude of 170 meters and generally favorable western and northwestern winds, as well as the stunning view.

Kaštelir - a place where rich cultural heritage, tradition and unique events blend into an unparalleled atmosphere.
