Vižinada

Located on the hill at the southern edge of the Mirna River valley, it offers an unforgettable view of the surrounding beauties, including vineyards and olive groves. Its interesting history stretches from prehistory to the present day, bearing witness to a rich cultural heritage and legacy. Legends are also associated with Vižinada, such as the one about Attila, the leader of the Hun invaders. It is believed that his likeness was carved on the stone lintel of the cemetery at Božje Polje, as it was thought that his fearsome figure would protect the souls of the deceased from evil spirits. Today, Vižinada is a modern place that combines tradition with a contemporary way of life.

One of Vižinada's cultural gems is the two-apse church of St. Barnabas, a Romanesque masterpiece dating back to the 12th or 13th century. In addition, visitors can explore the Šterna, a significant monument from the 18th century designed by the renowned Rovinj architect Simone Battistella, and the Old Fontik, the oldest secular public building in the municipality, built in the 15th century. Along with its rich historical heritage, Vižinada is also known for the famous ballerina Carlotta Grisi, who was born there and left an indelible mark on the history of ballet as the first Giselle and a famous diva of the 19th century. In addition to its cultural heritage, Vižinada is known for its traditional events, and for sports enthusiasts, the September Parenzana cycling marathon offers an unforgettable experience of exploring the surrounding landscape and socializing with like-minded individuals.

With its diverse offerings and beautiful ambiance, Vižinada offers an ideal experience that combines history, culture, nature and sports.
