Tar

The area of the municipality, located at the northwest end of the Poreč region, is filled with historical significance and cultural heritage, seamlessly blending with the natural beauty of the area. Spanning 28 km2, the Tar-Vabriga municipality was established in 2006. Tar and Vabriga, once two separate settlements, are now merged into one place divided by the main road connecting Poreč and Novigrad. Situated on a fertile plateau at 112 meters above sea level, this area offers a beautiful view of the sea on one side and the mouth of the Mirna River on the other, providing a wonderful panoramic vista of Novigrad to the north and Poreč to the south.

The cultural scene in Tar abounds with attractions, such as the Church of St. Martin, proudly rising as a symbol of the spiritual heritage of this place. The archaeological site of Loron - Santa Marina, located between the bays of Valelunga and Santa Marina, represents an important discovery. The medieval cape of Loron, once owned by the Bishop of Poreč, now hosts continuous archaeological excavations revealing a rich past, including two large complexes from the Roman era located about 400 meters apart, with a pottery workshop for amphorae production and a maritime villa. Additionally, the Lanterna peninsula and its surrounding coves provide unforgettable landscapes to enjoy the peace and beauty of nature, further enriching the visitor experience.

Tar symbolizes a harmonious blend of past and present, where cultural heritage and natural wealth together create a unique atmosphere and experience that remains etched in the memories of every visitor.
