Flavours of the Sea, Artisan Workshops and Istrian Tradition at the Crofish Fair in Poreč

This year, Poreč once again becomes the centre of Istrian gastronomy, fishing heritage and culinary innovation thanks to the Crofish fair – the region’s most important event dedicated to the sea, fisheries and professional culinary education. Over the course of three days, visitors will have the opportunity to watch cooking show performances by renowned chefs, participate in interactive workshops and taste dishes prepared with the finest Adriatic ingredients. The full schedule of workshops and demonstrations is available on the official Crofish cooking show program, where events are listed by day and theme.

The fair takes place in the Žatika sports hall, one of the largest exhibition venues on the Croatian coast. This spacious setting enables a diverse and dynamic programme including culinary workshops, educational lectures on sustainable fisheries, equipment presentations and continuous tasting sessions. Cooking shows are held both indoors and outdoors, where visitors can observe the preparation of dishes made from tuna, sea bass, shrimp, cuttlefish, Adriatic squid and a variety of shellfish.

A special emphasis is placed on authentic Istrian ingredients – extra virgin olive oil, fresh vegetables and aromatic herbs – which give each dish its distinctive regional character. Chefs demonstrate simple, seasonal and sustainable cooking techniques, showing how fresh Adriatic produce can be transformed into both traditional home-style meals and refined restaurant creations.

Among the most popular parts of the fair are the workshops dedicated to fish handling: proper filleting, shellfish and crustacean cleaning, the preparation of quick seafood snacks and the ability to recognise the quality of fresh fish. Experts from the fisheries sector also share valuable knowledge on sustainable resource management, making Crofish educational not only for culinary professionals but also for anyone interested in learning more about preserving the Adriatic ecosystem.

A rich tasting programme is also announced, with several hundred tasting portions served every day. Visitors will have the opportunity to sample different variations of dishes prepared live on stage, making Crofish a rare combination of education, entertainment and authentic gastronomy. Tastings are free and available throughout the day, making the event appealing to families, food lovers and curious visitors alike.

Beyond gastronomy, Crofish features an exhibition segment focused on fishing equipment, diving and water sports, as well as innovations in marine technology. This blend of tradition and modern industry attracts a wide variety of visitors — from professional fishermen and chefs to lovers of the sea and the Mediterranean lifestyle.
