In the premises of the City of Rovinj, a public presentation of the Urban Development Plan for the “Laste” area was held, attracting a large number of citizens, experts, and representatives of public institutions. The public consultation is open until September 10, 2025, and all documents, materials, and related information are available on the official website of the City of Rovinj: public consultation UPU “Laste”.
The public presentation sparked significant public interest and gathered a considerable number of Rovinj residents, professionals, and local organizations. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the objectives and proposals of the Urban Development Plan, ask questions, and provide feedback. The plan is being prepared by EKOMENA d.o.o. from Zagreb, a company specializing in spatial planning and urban development strategies.
The preparation of the Urban Development Plan “Laste” is based on the provisions of Article 79 of the Spatial Planning Act and the guidelines and graphic representations of the General Urban Plan of the City of Rovinj-Rovigno. The plan aims to ensure that future construction complies with the existing infrastructure, protects natural heritage, and enhances the quality of living in this area.
The Laste area is located in the immediate hinterland of Valdibora Bay, approximately one kilometer northeast of the Rovinj city center. It is predominantly an undeveloped area, covered with meadows, olive groves, and shrubland, bordered on the east by Concetta Street – one of the main city roads and a county route. To the north, the boundary is defined by the Campolongo canal, to the west by Richard Schauden Street and the old railway station, while to the south lies a small neighborhood of family houses and a public parking area.
The main goal of the Plan is to create prerequisites for the start of construction projects on the undeveloped part of the Laste settlement while preserving the existing landscape and integrating it with Rovinj’s urban fabric. The plan defines areas for residential construction, public facilities, transport infrastructure, and green spaces, ensuring sustainable development of this part of the city.
According to the proposal, the Plan foresees the development of new residential zones, the creation of public areas, and traffic corridors, with a particular focus on protecting natural resources and green spaces. The area will include pedestrian and cycling paths, new connections to existing infrastructure, and solutions for effective stormwater management. The goal is to achieve a balanced approach between urban growth and environmental preservation.
The City of Rovinj invites all interested citizens, investors, and experts to participate in the public consultation and provide their suggestions and comments. The full text of the plan, supporting documents, and graphic representations are available at: UPU “Laste” documentation. The public consultation will remain open until September 10, 2025, after which all collected suggestions will be analyzed and, if necessary, integrated into the final document.
The implementation of the Urban Development Plan “Laste” will have a long-term impact on the quality of life in Rovinj and create opportunities for new investments and improved infrastructure. The project focuses on a balanced development approach that equally values the needs of residents, environmental protection, and economic interests.
